Hi, I'm Susan Short.
I'm a Health and Behavioural Change Coach working with men and women in midlife who are still functioning, but running on empty.
My qualifications span nutrition, health coaching, personal training, Pilates and run coaching, and before this, I spent years in corporate project management and finance so I also understand the reality of a demanding professional life.
I work with individuals navigating burnout, hormonal change, body changes and a shifting sense of identity, and with organisations that understand supporting their people at this life stage is both a wellbeing and a performance imperative.

THE APPROACH
Why most approaches don't work — and what does.
I use a method I developed called The Connected Thread Method, because most approaches to midlife health treat the symptoms in isolation. A nutrition plan here, a stress management workshop there, a fitness program that doesn't account for where your hormones actually are. Each thread addressed separately, none of them held together.
The Connected Thread Method is built on the premise that your metabolic health, your environment, your stress response and your sense of identity are not separate.
They are all connected.
When you work across all four, in the right sequence and accounting for your life stage, lasting change becomes possible without starting over or stepping back from your life.

Most coaching programs tackle nutrition, fitness or mindset in isolation. The Connected Thread Method works across four areas, in sequence, because that's how lasting change actually happens in the body.
Stress activates the body's stress response system. Chronic activation disrupts sleep quality and metabolic function. Poor sleep impairs the cognitive and emotional regulation that behaviour change depends on. Address one without the others and you are working against your own physiology. The sequence matters.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Everything you might be wondering.

Will you just ask me questions, or will you actually tell me what to do?
Both. The process is coaching-based, meaning it's built around your specific situation, your physiology and your goals rather than a generic plan with your name on it. But I also bring direct expertise in nutrition, hormonal health and behaviour change, so where you need specific guidance, you'll get it. You won't leave sessions with only questions and no answers.
What falls within your scope, and what doesn't?
My work covers nutrition, movement and behavioural change and is grounded in your life stage and hormonal picture. I don't interpret hormone panels, recommend HRT or make clinical treatment decisions. Where those needs arise, I work alongside your GP or specialist, not instead of them.
What if I don't have time for this right now?
That's usually a sign this is exactly the right time. Sessions are built around a demanding schedule, not a perfect one. The answer isn't adding more. It's building the capacity to handle what's already there.
I've tried other approaches before and nothing has stuck. Why would this be different?
Most approaches address one thing, nutrition, or mindset, or exercise, and wonder why the results don't hold. The Connected Thread Method works across physiology, environment, psychology and direction at the same time, in the right sequence. It's not that you failed the other approaches. They weren't built for the full picture.
How do I know this will work for me?
I suggest you start with the free Health Snapshot. It maps where you are before we talk. From there, everything is built around your physiology, hormones, schedule and goals. Nothing is one-size-fits-all.
Are you a nutritionist, a personal trainer, or a health coach?
All three. My qualifications span nutrition, fitness, Pilates and health coaching, with a background in corporate project management and finance. Midlife rarely arrives as one neat problem, so neither does the method. Where something falls outside my scope, I'll refer you to your GP or the right health professional.
I've worked with other practitioners on some of these things. How is this different?
Specialists are the right call for specific clinical needs, and I work alongside your GP or health team where relevant. The difference here is integration. Most people at this life stage aren't unwell enough to be referred anywhere, but they're not thriving either. This method connects the dots, so the changes hold.
Is this just for women?
No, it's designed for both men and women, which is still uncommon in this space. Men navigating andropause, metabolic shifts and burnout often find very little that speaks to them directly. The hormonal context and psychology differ, and that's built into how we work.
